Annual Legal
& Legislative Update

Presented by Attorney Jim Reidy
Sheehan Phinney

By all accounts, 2020 was a year like none other in modern times. It was a year of highs, lows, chaos, acrimony and loss. The year started off with a booming economy and record low unemployment numbers. The rumor of a flu like illness in the Far East soon became a global pandemic that caused countries to close their borders, economies to crash, hospitals to fill to capacity and unemployment numbers to soar.

It was also a year of cultural upheaval with protests and riots. Businesses and organizations of all types and sizes struggled to keep the doors open, employees safe, adapt to remote work arrangements and comply with state and federal safety guidelines. While Congress, the President and State governments managed to come together at times to provide several forms of relief to individuals and employers, the year was also marked with great political strife. As a result, except for the relief packages and safety guidelines, nothing much came out of Congress, the state legislature, federal or state agencies.

Well, 2020 is now in the rearview mirror. The FDA approved COVID vaccines and there is now light at the end of the tunnel. With a new administration in Washington and changes in Concord there will likely be new workplace issues to address. In short, life as we knew it was FROZEN in 2020.

Hopefully 2021 will present an opportunity for a big thaw. It’s time to LET 2020 GO. This program will review workplace issues from 2020 and preview what we can expect in 2021.

Like our other annual legal updates, this program will be interactive.
