Join us for MAHRA's in-person annual Legal Update: HR to the Rescue, featuring MAHRA’s own, Attorney Jim Reidy! This is our most popular and well-attended program every year. That is because Jim makes the program educational and entertaining. This program, HR to the Rescue, is a legal update followed by an interactive parody of the popular TV show, Bar Rescue. In this program Jim will review the major new laws and regulations as well as most significant court decisions from the last year. He will also preview what may be next on the horizon for employers and review several major workplace challenges ( e.g. wage and hour issues; paid family leave; long COVID accommodations; workplace harassment; and others). Then, in the interactive part of the program, we will workshop solutions to challenging workplace legal issues. These scenarios come from recent court cases and administrative agency decisions, many of which had bad outcomes for the employer. As you may know, in the TV show, Bar Rescue, the host is tasked with trying to save a failing bar or restaurant. In doing so he has to address code compliance, out of touch managers, dysfunctional staff, and unhappy customers. Sound familiar? This is just like your everyday existence as an HR professional where often you are asked to address operational, technical, and staffing issues to save your organization from failure or other serious outcomes. In this program, we will review five or so real cases. A fact pattern will be described, and at various decision points the audience will be asked to weigh in on important decisions that could impact the outcome of the case. Again, sound familiar? In this program however, your job, stress tolerance and sanity aren’t at risk. This is a safe place. This program is designed to review the most difficult issues in the workplace today and help you hopefully navigate away from the worst-case scenarios. In many ways, especially over the last few years, HR came to the rescue for many workplaces. This program is designed to celebrate HR professionals as it reviews the many challenges facing employers and discusses pathways and strategies for success. It promises to be another fun and helpful program.
